I knew from the offset that this was going to be an interesting shoot. For a start, the agency behind it – Three Core Media – was run by my mate and former business partner Zack. And if you know Zack, you know he likes to do things big. Ask him for a print ad and you'll get a billboard, enquire over a video and invariably you’ll come away with TVC, so I knew this one would be fun.
(Side note. During one of our meetings, a client asked if I could shoot aboard one of their shipping vessels. “Yes sure we can.” I said to which Zack added “Rob can even dive down and get shots of the submersible if you want”. Now, it’s important to point out that 1. the submersibles were operating 50+meters below sea level and 2. the only diving I had ever done -- in my life -- was in the bath).
Anyway true to form what started out as a simple talent shoot (where we would do some photo-shopping on to stock images) turned out to be a full-on 2 day production. It was great. I was shooting cars. Not nice glossy, expensive cars, but cars that had been smashed up! And I was shooting in a big studio, with a big crew. Fun. fun. fun.
